Johannesburg manufacturer since 2003

Seats built for the room, not a catalogue

Planet Seating designs, manufactures and installs auditorium seating, church seating and cinema seating for venues across South Africa. Steel frames, custom layouts and fabrics are specified for daily public use, so a lecture hall, sanctuary or theatre still looks finished after years of traffic.

Since 2003

Local manufacturing for churches, lecture halls, cinemas and multi-purpose venues.

Based in Johannesburg

Workshop and consultation from Roodepoort, Gauteng, with nationwide install.

Steel & upholstery

Frames, foam and commercial fabrics specified for high-traffic seating.

Custom layouts

Aisles, sightlines, wheelchair spaces and tip-up rows planned per room.

Auditorium, church and cinema seating ranges

Venue seating is not one product. A lecture theatre needs writing surfaces and fast class changeover. A sanctuary needs density, aisle ushers and fabrics that sit quietly under stage lighting. A cinema needs sightlines and tip-up rows. Choose the range that matches the room. Each page has project photos, specifications and a path to a quote.

Local seating manufacturer in Johannesburg

Planet Seating was established in 2003 and manufactures seating in South Africa. Architects, church planners and venue owners specify our auditorium seating when a hall must look finished, last under daily use, and stay comfortable for long sittings. That work still happens from the same Roodepoort workshop: frames, foam and upholstery built here, then installed on site.

We work from drawings or a site visit in Gauteng and further afield. Layouts cover aisle widths, accessible spaces, tip-up or fixed seats, and fabric choices from ranges such as Helmtex Studio and Work. The same workshop builds auditorium seating, church seating and cinema and theatre seating, so a multi-purpose venue does not have to mix suppliers.

Most projects start with a phone call and a few photos. We confirm seat count, row geometry and options, then build to that layout instead of dropping in a catalogue block.

What we specify on every project

  • Steel frames, reinforced joints and replaceable seat parts
  • Upholstery selected for wear, cleaning and colour matching
  • Optional armrests, writing tablets, cup holders and tip-up seats
  • Installation that keeps rows straight, bolted and ready for opening

Comfort, mechanisms and row layout

A well-designed seating arrangement gives people room to sit through a lecture, service or film, and still move in the aisles. Foam density, back angle and tip-up action are set for the venue, not copied from a catalogue page. Compact centres matter in a cinema. Easy passing matters in a church. Writing space matters in a lecture theatre.

Tip-up seats keep walkways clear when a row is empty. Fixed seats suit raked halls where people stay put. Armrests, tablets and numbered aisle ends are added only where the room needs them, so capacity is not wasted.

Watch a short clip of our seating in motion, then browse the project photos below from churches, lecture halls and theatres we have seated.

Fabric options

Upholstery is chosen for wear, cleaning and the colour of the room. A dark sanctuary fabric that hides traffic will not be the same cloth as a light lecture-hall shell. We work with Helmtex Studio and Work ranges so chairs can mix and match across a sanctuary, lecture theatre or cinema without looking like leftover stock.

Bring a paint chip, a photo of the existing interior, or a preferred colour family. We will match commercial grades that can be cleaned and replaced if a single seat is damaged later.

Send the room. We will price the rows.

You do not need a finished specification. Venue type, seat count, city and a photo of the empty hall are enough to judge rake, aisles and whether tip-up or fixed seats belong in the brief.

How a seating project works

A seating project is easier when the steps are clear: consult, layout, manufacture, then install. Most quotes start with photos and an estimated seat count. You do not need a full architect pack before the first conversation.

1

Consult

We confirm venue type, capacity, budget and whether the room is a church, lecture hall, cinema or mixed-use hall. Options such as tablets and tip-up seats are listed here.

2

Layout

Row centres, aisles, rake, wheelchair bays and sightlines are drawn to the actual room, not a generic grid, so capacity and access stay legal and usable.

3

Manufacture

Frames, foam and fabric are built in Johannesburg to the approved specification, with replaceable parts so a damaged seat can be swapped later.

4

Install

On-site fixing, alignment and handover so rows sit straight, bolts are tight, and the venue can open on schedule.

Seating installation across South Africa

We manufacture in Roodepoort and install auditorium seating, church chairs and cinema seating nationwide. Gauteng projects are common, but the same seats go to Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and other towns when a church, college or theatre needs a local manufacturer rather than an import-only catalogue.

Seating manufacturer in Johannesburg since 2003

Planet Seating (Pty) Ltd builds public seating for rooms that work every week, not once a year. Universities specify lecture hall seating with writing surfaces and fast class changeover. Churches specify sanctuary chairs that stay quiet under LED worship screens. Cinema and theatre owners specify tip-up rows and sightlines so side seats still see the picture. The same Roodepoort workshop also builds Planet Desking furniture when a pastors’ office, boardroom or study centre sits on the same contract.

Layouts are drawn to the room you already have: aisle widths, wheelchair bays, rake, fabric grade and whether seats should tip up or stay fixed. We install nationwide from Johannesburg — Pretoria and the rest of Gauteng are common, and the same seats go to Cape Town, Durban and other towns when a venue wants a South African manufacturer rather than an import-only catalogue. Start with photos of the empty hall and an approximate seat count. A finished architect pack is useful, not required.

Common questions about seating manufacturers

Who manufactures auditorium seating in South Africa?

Planet Seating SA manufactures auditorium, church, cinema and theatre seating in Roodepoort, Johannesburg, and has done so since 2003. Manufacture and installation stay with one team so rows, fabrics and fixings match.

Do you install seating outside Gauteng?

Yes. We consult and manufacture in Johannesburg and install projects across South Africa, including Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban. Travel and site access are priced with the quote.

What do you need for a seating quote?

Venue type, approximate seat count, photos or a floor plan, and options such as tip-up seats, writing tablets or accessible spaces. Use the contact form or call 082 892 5186.

Are you a local manufacturer or an importer?

We manufacture in South Africa. Frames, foam and upholstery are built in the Roodepoort workshop, then installed on site. Import-only catalogues are a different supply model.

How long does a typical seating project take?

Lead time depends on seat count, fabric and site access. A clear brief and photos let us lock a layout first; manufacture follows the approved specification. Dates are confirmed on the written quote.

Do you also make church and cinema seating?

Yes. Auditorium, church and cinema ranges share the same workshop. A multi-purpose venue can keep one supplier for the hall, sanctuary and screen room. Office furniture sits under Planet Desking.

What warranty applies to Planet Seating chairs?

Structural frames are typically covered for up to ten years. Foam and fabric are shorter unless the quote says otherwise. Read the warranty policy or ask for the cover on your specification.

Can office desks be quoted with the hall?

Yes. Churches, colleges and cinemas often need a boardroom or pastors’ office with the seating. Select office furniture on the form or open Planet Desking.
